Just to make sure we’re clear… When I say “affiliates,” I’m not talking
about the people who, say, buy an ebook and then tell one friend about
it and that one friend buys it.
I’m talking about the affiliates who work to drive a flood of traffic
to a company’s website every day, the ones who know they have to warm
up the visitors to increase their chances of getting the sale, the ones
who test to see what’s working and what isn’t so they can get you more
sales, the ones who make their living by sending companies business.
They are savvy marketers who are always learning, always
evolving, always on the lookout for better ways to improve their
game.
You win. They win.
But…
Affiliates are smart. They know they can send you a flood of
credit-card-in-hand visitors but your site still has to close the
deal. If they don’t think your site will hold up its end of the
bargain and get the sale, they won’t bother with it.
There are thousands of websites out there with affiliate programs, but
no affiliates, and those website owners have no clue why affiliate
marketing isn’t working for them. What they don’t realize is that
their site is turning affiliates off, and you can bet that if it’s
turning affiliates off, it’s turning visitors off too.
